When I first dreamed of Depression Proof Your Life (DPYL), I envisioned it as a conversation starter. I wanted it to be a place where everyone feels safe to open up about mental health, sobriety, and the stresses of everyday life. Even before our first #DPYLLive airs, I’ve received heartfelt messages that affirm this vision:
“DPYL gave me words to start a conversation with my father about his mental illness.”
“Hearing your story made it easier for me to talk to my friends about sobriety.”
“I don’t feel so alone anymore.”
"This is such a much-needed topic!"
These messages echo a lesson my mother learned from her own mother (my grandmother):
“When you’re going through something, someone else is going through the same thing.”
This simple truth is the heartbeat of DPYL. Every time you share your struggle or your victory, someone else finds the courage to do the same. When you speak honestly about your mental health, you make it easier for someone else to do the same.
The Importance of Connection
As we approach our first live show this Thursday, September 18, 2025, at 7 PM EST, my hope is that DPYL becomes your safe space. Here, you can listen, learn, and practice starting those hard but healing conversations. Whether you’re navigating a mental health diagnosis, maintaining your recovery, supporting a loved one, or just trying to stay mentally healthy amidst life’s demands, you belong here.
Sharing Your Story
If you’ve already experienced a “DPYL spark”—if an episode, a post, or a quote helped you open up—I’d love to hear from you. Your voice may be exactly what someone else needs today. You can reply in the comments, send me a message, or share your story on social media with #DPYLLive.
Building a Supportive Community
We are creating a supportive community where people can openly discuss mental health. This is a space for practical tools and real change. By making environmental adjustments and habit shifts, we can help each other build resilient lives.
Embracing Vulnerability
Remember, you’re not alone. None of us are. Together, we can normalize conversations about mental health and sobriety. These discussions can be powerful and transformative.
Join Us for DPYLLive
I invite you to join us for #DPYLLive. Let’s create a space where we can uplift each other and share our journeys. Together, we can foster an environment of understanding and support.
Your story matters. Your experiences are valid. Let’s make a difference together.
See you at #DPYLlive!
